How to Care For and Clean 925 Real Silver

925 real silver, also known as sterling silver, is a compound silver metal made specifically for jewellery such as handmade silver bracelets. It is stronger than 100% silver, which is soft and not good for daily wear. However, it will still tarnish as pure silver does and needs to be kept clean and cared for to avoid oxidisation/darkening.

Silver jewellery care is quite simple. When your silver jewellery is not being worn, give it a polish with a good quality anti-tarnish silver polishing cloth (I like to use towntalk). Afterwards, store in a re-sealable bag with an anti-tarnish tab to keep your silver looking its best.

Do not use any cleaners or abrasives not designed for silver jewellery care, especially if you have amber stone necklaces, that is because these cleaners can damage the precious stones. Furthermore, home cleaners can react with silver and oxidise your silver jewellery further, doing more harm than good.

Prevent Your Silver Bee Earrings from Oxidising

To prevent tarnishing, you should avoid wearing your jewellery while sunbathing, sleeping, playing sports, going to the gym etc as sweat and heat can cause oxidisation. You should also avoid wearing while showering, swimming or going in hot tubs as these activities can put you in contact with chemicals that cause oxidation.

Contact with make-up, hairsprays, perfume, body lotions, sunscreens etc should be avoided as their chemicals can react with 925 real silver. Your jewellery should be put on last after all lotions, make-up etc. There is an old saying ‘make your jewellery the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off’.

PLEASE NOTE, IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BUYER TO CARE FOR AND CLEAN THEIR SILVER JEWELLERY PROPERLY AFTER PURCHASE. THIS IS IN ORDER TO KEEP IT IN ITS BEST CONDITION AND PREVENT ANY DAMAGE OR TARNISHING OF THE ITEM. ITEMS CANNOT BE RETURNED OR EXCHANGED DUE TO LACK OF CARE OR CLEANING.
